The Gala Dinner at Home

Street Soccer Scotland responded to the challenge of Covid-19 by taking one of their Gala Dinner online as a virtual event.

The Challenge

Physical events disrupted by Covid-19

Street Soccer Scotland’s Gala Dinner is one of the charity’s main fundraising events of the year.

Unfortunately, during the pandemic it was not possible to hold events in-person, which meant that the dinner and some other fundraising events were not able to go ahead as planned.

With fundraising disrupted by Covid-19, combined with a significant need for Street Soccer Scotland’s services, the team sought to find a way for the dinner to go ahead.

The Solution

Making the Gala Dinner into a virtual event

The dinner was taken online as a live stream, with guests invited to wear black tie attire and celebrity appearances from Andy Robertson, Sir Tom Hunter and Harry and Sandra Redknapp. Chef Nick Nairn even designed a set menu so that guests could immerse themselves in the evening!

The Text Giving keyword ‘SAMETEAM’ was promoted on-screen throughout the live broadcast, as well as being promoted verbally by the event hosts and prompted after key stories were shared, to ask for donations of £10.

“We wanted something that if you’re watching on your laptop, you can just pick up your phone, text “SAMETEAM’ and that would then turn into a donation. It was really simple and really easy.”
