What do we do?

At The People’s Kitchen, our vision is to play a unique role in the City’s efforts to meet the needs of homeless and vulnerable people (our friends). Many of our friends facing hardship struggle to afford essentials like hot meals and drinks, so we provide fresh food, clothing, bedding and friendship to those who need it most.

To make this a reality, over 200 of our fantastic volunteers deliver a staggering 35,000 hours of their time to help us provide 40,000 hot meals every single year.

Our founder, Alison Kay, opened our first Kitchen next to the railway arches by Dean Street in 1986, after reading an article about the death of a local homeless man. Over 30 years later, we continue to live by Alison’s principles of providing ‘friendship and food’ both inside our kitchen, and from our mobile food van.

We're now fighting to keep our van service out on the streets of Newcastle, where it is a real lifeline. Please visit The People’s Kitchen’s website for further information.

Here at donr, we help UK charities to make the world a better place, one crowdfunding campaign at a time.

How? We work closely with all of our charity partners to create exciting, informative campaign pages which help them to raise the funds they need to change lives.

Just like other leading platforms, we take a small fee of 5% (plus card processing fees) per donation made. However, at donr, this fee gets charities so much more than a static page; our extensive service instead offers a skilled team who research, write, design, develop and even provide digital marketing assistance to launch the page.

We also offer supporters the option to donate via mobile billing, which carries no processing fees.

If you know a charity with a story to tell, please visit donr's website for more information.

Since 1985, we've been serving hot meals to those
in need across Newcastle.

As the need continued to grow, so did we.

This is our catering van.

It helps us serve hot meals to vulnerable people
who can’t always get to us...

We like to call them our friends.

Our van serves nearly 200 meals to our friends
on the streets every week.

Along with our kitchen, that’s over 40,000 meals
served every year.

Our van also carries clothes and sleeping bags for
friends who need extra help.

But sadly, our van is now on its last legs...

...and we cannot afford to let our friends down,
if we break down.

That’s why we need a new van – to continue helping our friends on the streets.

Especially with our busiest time of year fast approaching.

So we're asking YOU, the people of our city, to help us
replace our van...

...to continue sharing #FoodWithFriends
across Newcastle.
